Amazing Grace

My daughter had brain surgery yesterday. She underwent a procedure called an Endoscopic Third Ventriculostomy (ETV) in an attempt to help drain fluid that's building up in her brain. Grace has had health problems since birth, and two weeks ago an MRI revealed the fluid in her head - surgery was our only option. If this works - and we're praying it will - she won't need a shunt sugically placed. We should know if the procedure was successful in a month or two.

What's amazing to me is that less than two days after the operation, she's home sleeping in her own bed. Doctors were so impressed with her recovery that they wrote her discharge orders today. About 36 hours ago a doctor drilled a hole in her head, stuck a camera through her brain and cut a hole in the membrane of her third ventricle with a laser, and tonight she's sleeping in her own bed. Amazing.

More impressive, however, was the outpouring of support from our family and friends. They all know how tough the last two years have been, and they were all praying for us. It really showed my wife and I how blessed we are to have this fantastic support system, and how important friends and family really are. Thanks to everyone who was pulling for us.
