The French Really Are Jerks

Neil French that is.

Someone sent me this today and I had to laugh. I'm not even sure who this guy Neil French is, but he made some interesting comments about how creative careers and children are incompatible.

"French claims, according to Ad Age, children are 'incompatible with the long hours needed to become a top creative.' Egoistically proving his point and hinting fatherhood is for wimps, French told the paper he hasn't seen his only child, an eight year-old boy in months."

Not to blow my own horn here or anything, but I'm a creative with children and I would say I've had a pretty successful career so far. Promoted to Art Director of two TV stations in the 27th market at age 26; 14 Boston/New England Emmy nominations; an ABC Alpha Award; a Promax/BDA Gold Muse awards; and a Telly Award.

Oh yea..., and I'm a stay-at-home dad.

I'm not sure how this guy judges success, but I'm in the business and I've never heard of him. In the end, a person is rarely judged on their career, but rather on what type of husband and father they were. My daughters are gonna know they had the best dad ever. It sounds like he'll be lucky if his kid even remembers who he was.

I've heard of this guys comments in the recent past.
To say he's a jerk is putting it mildly.
If children are such a hinderance to a career, why would he have one in the first place. He'll be the same one wondering what's wrong with his kid when he's in his teens and begins "experimenting".
