Wide-Eyed Excitement

This year has been the best in terms of my children's excitement about Christmas. My younger daughter sort of gets it this time around - she says "Santa" and tells us what she wants Santa to bring her (Dora's Kitchen). My 4-year-old, however, is SOOOOOOOO excited. It's SOOOOOO awesome. Her eyes just light up when she sees Christmas lights on people's homes or a holiday display in the mall when we're shopping. She'll be glad to tell you what Santa's brining her. Yes..., that's right..., not what she WANTS Santa to bring her...., what Santa IS brining her.

When I was a kid, I remember asking for a lot of things, but I don't remember getting them all. I certainly didn't think that just because I wanted something guaranteed I was going to get it. She'll probably get most of what she wants, but we draw the line at crap. Things that we know are going to break in a day or two will not be under our tree. Call me Scrooge, but she'll get over it. She'll have more than enough with everything her parents, aunts, uncle and grandparents are going to get her. They're spoiled, I'll tell you, but that's okay - they're not brats. I have great kids.

Anyway..., this year, Christmas should be a lot of fun. But next year..., next year should be great. The two of them will be completely into it. Hopefully we'll get at least a few years where the two of them believe at the same time. It breaks my heart to think that someday they'll find out the truth about Santa Claus. If they're anything like me, however, they'll believe well into their junior high school years, even at the risk of being ridiculed by their peers. Yea..., my parents never bothered to tell me the truth..., they just left me to figure it out on my own. Same thing about sex.

Can't believe I'm not in therapy.

Lets see..... you're buying gifts for your two kids. I think you figured out both things your parents never told you about pretty well for yourself.
